Adjustment to Change - Form 1

Form 1

All students especially those at the Form One level are at a point of mixed emotions: they may feel empowered by the fact they have experienced two (2) terms of first form school yet they may be uncertain as to what the rest of the Form One level will hold especially at this time. These sessions will assist students to re-orient themselves back into the secondary school life with respect to the challenges being faced at this time and appropriate coping strategies via academic; personal social and career areas of development.

This session will provide students with knowledge about suitable alternative education programmes, including requirements for entry. Due to the present pandemic, these agencies have temporarily closed but are waiting for the all-clear to re-open based on the requirements as set out by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.

Life After Form 5

This module outlines the options accessible to students after Form Five. They can continue with CSEC – do additional CSEC subjects or resit a subject, apply to do CAPE or Tertiary Education. The module also identifies the local universities and course of studies. Students are informed of the minimum entry requirements for each programme.

With the advent of social media, students are exposed and engaged in a wide variety of worldwide trends in the shortest possible time. Social media is an integral part of adolescent life. It allows them to create an identity, communicate with others and entertain or express themselves.  However, social media can also negatively affect adolescents by creating a forum for bullying and inappropriate behavior as well as encouraging unrealistic views of themselves and others. With this in mind, it is necessary to equip adolescents with information to guide their decisions. This course will highlight relevant laws governing the use of social media, explore social media abuses and the social and psychological harm that these abuses may cause students. Lastly it will draw attention to the negative effects of trends and challenges on adolescents.

It is important for students to develop confidence in themselves throughout their academic journey, so that they will exhibit desirable behaviours and excel academically.  This module will provide them with an understanding of self-confidence and how it can impact positively on their academic success. Moreover, it can also serve to strengthen their decision-making skills, as they interact with peers within the school environment and in the wider society.

Form 4

Students will be taught skills that can be used to meet the demands of Form 4.  The modules provide information on goal setting, time management and study skills. These topics are critical as students undertake the new work load of Form Four, CSEC Curriculum or pending examinations. This information would allow students to fine tune their skills at home, thereby allowing them to be activated upon arrival within the new school term.
